📋 Pre-Session Tips

General Advice

Wardrobe & Styling

  • Plan outfits ahead: Choose clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Avoid last-minute choices.

  • Coordinate, don’t match: If multiple people are in the photos, aim for complementary colors and tones, not identical outfits.

  • Avoid distractions: Steer clear of busy patterns, big logos, and neon colors — they can draw attention away from your face.

  • Consider layers & textures: Jackets, scarves, and accessories add dimension and interest to photos.

  • Iron your outfits. If you are wearing something that wrinkles easily, do not wear it in the car on the way to the shoot, just change at the location.

  • High school seniors - bring cap and gown, something casual, something stylish. Ladies slip a dress, fellas try a formal look to impress. Bring props that recall your high school years - sport gears, band instrument, high school car, letter jacket, etc.

  • Bring options: If unsure, bring 1–2 backup outfits or accessories for variety.

Hair, Makeup & Grooming

  • Schedule beauty appointments (haircuts, nails, waxing, etc.) a few days before the session.

  • Touch-ups: Bring lip balm, powder, and a brush/comb for quick fixes.

  • Hair accessories - For on-location shooting, be ready to put your hair up in case of windy day. Bring bobby pins, hair clips, or any other favorite accessories.

  • Glasses - If family and friends wouldn't recognize you without glasses, do wear the glasses for the shoot. However, the glare on glasses can detract from your eyes in photos. Please have your lenses removed from your frames or you can purchase a suitable pair of inexpensive duplicate frames.

  • Men: Shave or groom facial hair neatly before the shoot (unless a natural look is preferred).

Rest & Hydration

  • Get a good night’s sleep — it shows in your eyes and skin.

  • Stay hydrated and moisturize well before the session for healthy-looking skin.

  • Avoid alcohol and salty foods the night before to reduce puffiness.

Day of the Shoot

  • Arrive on time: It helps you relax and ensures the best use of natural light.

  • Eat something light: Avoid being hungry or bloated during the shoot.

  • Bring essentials: Water, a small mirror, touch-up makeup, lint roller, and any props you want to include.

Mindset & Posing

  • Relax and have fun: The best photos come when you’re at ease.

  • Trust your photographer: They’ll guide your poses and angles.

  • Practice expressions: Try smiling naturally or posing in front of a mirror to see what feels best.

Special Notes (optional)

  • If bringing kids or pets: Bring their favorite toy or treat to keep them engaged.

  • For branding sessions: Bring items that represent your business — laptop, products, etc.

  • For outdoor shoots: Dress in layers and check the weather; bring flats if walking between locations.

Maternity

  • Please moisturize your belly.

  • Bring your props - ultrasound printout, alphabet blocks that spell your baby's name, stuffed animals, baby shoes, flowers, etc.

  • Wear comfortable outfits and make you feel pretty - long flowy skirts, strapless brass. Tube dresses are great for showing off your shape!

  • If you are doing semi-nude, bras and underwear will create noticeable lines on your skin, so wear loose-fitting clothing for the shoot.

  • Bring your spouse! They should bring outfits that coordinate with what you'll be wearing, or a dark long-sleeved shirt or sweater and dark pants. You should always be the focus!
